S104
Tour Summary
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
◆Sumo Wrestling in Okayama
◆ Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle, which is designated as a World Heritage Site, is a beautiful castle with a pure white stucco outer wall. It is also called Shirasagi Castle, and when viewed from a distance, it is reminiscent of the graceful fluttering of white birds.
However, in reality, it is also a strong fortress with many layers of ingenuity for defense and attack in preparation for battle with the enemy. Be sure to visit and experience the mighty world of samurai 400 years ago.
◆ Kurashiki
The city of Kurashiki prospered as a port under the direct control of the government during the Edo period. A group of white-walled merchant houses was formed on the canal drawn from the sea. After the Meiji period, due to the development of the spinning industry, Kurashiki became the "town of textiles" with the highest annual shipment value in Japan. Even in the post-war period of modernization, efforts were made to protect buildings and beautiful areas were formed.
◆ Special Place of Scenic Beauty Okayama Korakuen
Okayama Korakuen is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan and one of the Daimyo gardens that represent the Edo period. It has also received a three-star rating from the Michelin Green Guide Japan.
Built 300 years ago, this garden continues to change according to the tastes of the feudal lords and social circumstances of each era, conveying the impressions of the Edo period to the present day.
It is a beautiful garden that incorporates the Japanese garden style called Chisen Kaiyushiki Garden, and features a beautiful landscape with ponds, waterfalls, islands, and teahouses.
◆ Okayama Castle
One of Japan's top 100 castles. Located right next to Okayama Korakuen, the castle tower offers a 360-degree view of Okayama Korakuen and the castle town of Okayama. Did the lord of the castle in the Edo period look at Korakuen from the castle and think about creating a garden?
The outer wall of Okayama Castle's keep is covered with black clapboards and is also known as Ujo. The contrast with Himeji Castle, which was called Shirasagi Castle, is also an interesting point.
