世界遺産に指定されている姫路城は、真っ白な漆喰の外壁が映える美しい城です。別名白鷺城と呼ばれ、遠くから見ると白い鳥たちの優雅な羽ばたきを連想させます。
しかし、実際は敵との戦いに備え、防御と攻撃のための工夫が幾重にも施された強固な要塞でもあります。ぜひ訪れて400年前の強大なサムライの世界を体感してみましょう。
◆倉敷
倉敷の街は、江戸時代、政府の直轄の港として、繁栄しました。海から引き込んだ運河に、白壁商家群が形成されました。明治以降は、紡績業の発展により、倉敷は年間出荷額日本一の｢繊維のまち｣となり、洋風建築が増え、「和｣の伝統と｢洋｣の技術を融合させながら発展しました。戦後の近代化の時代も、建築物の保護に努め、美観地域が形成されました。
◆特別名勝 岡山後楽園
岡山後楽園は、日本三名園の一つで、江戸時代を代表する大名庭園の一つです。ミシュラン・グリーンガイド・ジャポンで三ツ星評価も取得しています。
300年前に作られたこの庭園は、時代ごとの藩主の好みや社会事情に合わせて変化を続け、江戸時代のおもかげを今に伝えています。
池泉回遊式庭園と呼ばれる日本の庭園様式を取り入れたもので、池や滝、島、茶屋などが配置された美しい景観が特徴の美しい庭園です。
◆岡山城
日本100名城のひとつ。岡山後楽園の真横に位置し、天守からは岡山後楽園と岡山の城下町を360度見渡せます。江戸時代の城主は城から後楽園を眺め、作庭に想いを馳せたのでしょうか。
岡山城の天守外壁は黒塗りの下見板で覆われていて、烏城の別名があります。白鷺城と呼ばれた姫路城との対比も面白いポイントです。
