In this experience, you will make a product of your choosing out of Aomori beechwood using unique techniques established by the Bunaco company. 

Established in 1956, Bunaco sought to create an original product that utilized the high-quality beechwood of Aomori Prefecture, which is home to the world's largest beech forest. Though beechwood was originally deemed unsuitable as a construction material, due to its high levels of water absorption, Bunaco discovered a technique that allowed beechwood to be used to create a variety of different products. By cutting the wood to be as little as 1mm thick and then winding this wood to make a board, Bunaco's beechwood products can be formed into all sorts of shapes to make bowls, lamps, speakers, and more. The technique has come to be highly celebrated and Bunaco products can be seen in places like the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. 

See this special method for yourself on a tour of the Bunaco Nishimeya Factory, and watch artisans at work as they create exclusive Bunaco products. Then take part in a handicraft experience where you will make your own bowl or plate using a genuine Bunaco winding board...and a teacup! 

Guests are free to modify their Bunaco product as they choose, and the finished product will be sent by the Bunaco company to your chosen location approximately 3 weeks after the experience date.
