Fuchu City　府中市

About 40 provinces were established within Japan in the 8th century. One of them was Mushani-no-kuni, which occupied almost all areas of present-day Tokyo. Its capital was in Fuchu city, and we can still see traces of it there to this day.
Fuchu city is one of the most popular, affluent residential areas in Tokyo. There are many factories and research facilities for some of Japan’s traditional companies there. As such, competitive Japanese rugby teams, such as Toshiba and Suntory, train in the town. Their players mainly consist of employees from the factories.

　Okunitama Shrine and the Remnants of Musashi Kokufu

Okunitama Shrine is a Shinto shrine (Shinto is the native religion of Japan).This shrine is the core religious facility in Musashino and sits next to the ruins of the area’s ancient provincial office.Since ancient times, Japanese people have believed that Gods exist in nature and that nature has much more power than human intellect.
In Okunitama Shrine, visitors can find a 1,000 year old giant gingko tree, as well as a small forest.We believe that this shrine purifies its visitors’, soothes their souls, and makes them happy.

　Tokyo Racecourse and JRA Racing Museum

It is said that the Derby Stakes, Kentucky Derby, and Japan Derby are the three best derbies in the world.The prize money of the Japanese Derby is higher than that of England’s, and Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu city, where the Japan Derby is held, is well known as the largest racecourse in Japan, accommodating more than two hundred thousand guests.With its beautiful green lawn, people, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy its many attractions.
In addition, there are also several exhibitions in the JRA museum located within the museum.

　Suntory Musashino Brewery

Thanks to the high-quality water drawn from its deep wells, the “Premium Malt” beer, made in the Suntory Brewery,is famous for its luxuriousness.On the brewery tour, you can walk through the old beer tank of the plant, learn about malt,and have a close viewing of the brewing facility itself.At the end of the tour, visitors can also enjoy a complimentary beer tasting.
