WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

Meiji Shrine

Meiji Shrine, Tokyo’s most popular Shinto shrine, is a beautiful complex surrounded by over 70 hectares (170 acres) of lush green forest. It deifies the spirits of Emperor Meiji, the emperor who oversaw the modernization of Japan, and his wife, Empress Shoken. As part of the tour, you will walk its serene grounds and learn about the history of religion in Japan and its connection to the Imperial Family.

Imperial Palace

Following the shrine, you will visit the Imperial Palace, the home of the Japanese Emperor and his family. The palace’s vast green grounds are over 1.3 square miles wide and are surrounded by impressive deep moats. As you walk the grounds, you will see many stunning sights, including the Nijubashi bridge, which connects the outer grounds to the inner area where the main buildings are located. The bridge in combination with the great Sakuradamon Gate is thought to be one of the most iconic views of Tokyo.

While at the palace, your guide also inform you about the history of Imperial rule in Japan, as well as the current situation of the Emperor and his family.
