Tsukiji Fish Market Walk ~ let's get into the world's largest market ~

See and feel the secret of the world largest fish market core of the Japanese diet, a diet declared by UNESCO Cultural Heritage.

Enjoy shopping at the outer market where retail shops and restaurants cater to the public. Inside the inner market, where most of the wholesale business and the famous tuna auctions take place, the access is limited and certain rules should be followed. Buyers and sellers hurry along narrow lanes with their carts and trucks, an exciting touristic spot growing in popularity however requires professional guidance to avoid accidents or becoming an interference to the business.

*Only 4 guest for guide. Children under the age of 11 are not allowed to enter the market

**Tuna auction tour also available as different package (4:00 am)

We managed to book this tour despite very late notice - most other places needed five days notice but we got this within 48 hours. The tour was quickly booked and paid for with no problems, and quite reasonable for the five of us travelling as a family. Our guide, Tomoko Kasai, met us at our hotel in Shinjuku. She was right on time and also bought us small gifts from her family which was a very nice gesture. We travelled by subway but it was very quick and well organised by Tomoko, so we were at the market within 30 minutes. We visited both inner and outer fish markets as well as the fruit and vegetable section and it is a fascinating tour. Despite the crowds and the workers flying back and forth (you have to keep you wits about you - trolleys, carts, cars, bikes and people all travelling at high speed moving seafood around) Tomoko kept us together, and waited while we took photos, asking permission when needed. It is a fully operational market so not as "touristy" as others, but you can see quite a lot. We made a number of purchases at Tomoko's recommendation, and I managed to buy some very good sushi knives at reasonable prices too. While there are many restaurants there were some very long queues for some, so we managed to get into a quieter one and had an awesome fresh sushi meal. It was a great tour, well organised and well run by Tomoko. We will be looking up True Japan for our next visit to Japan.
