The Little Edo - Kawagoe Walking Tour

E009

Kawagoe, known as little Edo, is a town that still retains the look and feel of Tokyo in the Edo period. The city still retains things that Tokyo lost with modernization, such as the large floats.
The streets lined with warehouses are the result of the citizens' constant efforts to preserve them. Today, Kawagoe is loved by people as the city that best conveys the atmosphere of Edo.

HIGHLIGHT

【Itinerary】Pick up from hotel→Visit Kawagoe→Hotel or JR station in Tokyo

The main places to visit are as follows:

(1) Kawagoe Castle Honmaru Goten (built in 1848)

(2) Hikawa Shrine (main deity of Kawagoe Festival)

(3) Kita-in Temple: The base of the high priest Tenkai, a representative of the Edo period, with architectural remains from the mid-17th century and interesting carvings of 500 arhats.

(4) Senba Toshogu Shrine: Toshogu is a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo shogunate. Along with Nikko, it is one of the three major Toshogu shrines.

This area is lined with Edo period "kura-zukuri" houses. You can expect to get the best shots if you walk around.
