Sushi-Making Experience (in English)

Create a new signature dish in this sushi-making experience with a nationally accredited instructor. Experience hands-on training and learn how to create beautifully-shaped sushi – typically inherently difficult to make – using simple utensils in just a few hours.

*To ensure your safety and hygiene, each private group is led by one or more instructor.

HIGHLIGHT

Students will make the following three types of sushi:

  1. Hosomaki Zushi: Thinly sliced ingredients, such as cucumber and tuna, wrapped in rice and rolled in nori seaweed
  2. Gunkan Zushi: Rice wrapped in nori seaweed topped with soft ingredients such as salmon roe, cod roe, or minced tuna
  3. Nigiri Zushi: Classical style sushi: rice topped with ingredients such as tuna, shrimp, white fish, etc.

◆ Upgrade your experience to include a sake or tea tasting session (additional cost).

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

 To start the program, participants will learn all about the culture of sushi and practice the hygiene techniques necessary to prevent contamination. Your instructor will also tell you a little about the history of the cuisine, and how it has come to be as it is today.

 Then you will get to work making your sushi! Though restaurant chefs may make it look easy, acquiring the techniques to make beautiful and artistic sushi pieces can take years of practice. In our lesson, however, you will master some of the basics in just a few hours (with a little help from our handy rice-molding kits should you need them). Using these techniques, you will learn to make three delicious types of sushi: nigiri zushi (classic hand-molded sushi), gunkan maki (sushi wrapped in nori seaweed) and hosomaki zushi (thin sushi rolls).  

 Our classes are flexible, designed for everyone from beginners to expert chefs, and we offer instruction on handmaking sushi, as well as information on the use of sushi-making kit. Whichever way fits you; we can teach you how to make tasty and photo-worthy sushi that is can compete with any of Tokyo’s best sushi joints.

 After you have made your sushi, you will then sit down to enjoy it as a meal. As you eat, your instructor will teach you all about the condiments related to sushi, as well as introduce you to Japanese dining etiquette. Our knowledgeable instructors all have high-level language skills, so this conversation can be almost as delicious as the meal. Bon Appétit!

This sushi experience takes place at Grand TJT, located in the Kikai Shinko Kaikan Honkan building, a one-minute walk north of Tokyo Tower. It is a government-certified facility with water supply, drainage, refrigeration, and other facilities.

 As an optional extra, you can also experience a sake tasting and/or Japanese tea tasting along with your sushi making experience.

Tasting 5 kinds of Japanese sake: 9,800 yen → 5,000 yen

Tasting 5 kinds of Japanese tea: 7,800 yen → 5,000 yen

Tasting 3 kinds of Japanese tea: 3,900 yen → 3,000 yen

However, some snacks for sake will be reduced.

CANCELLATION POLICY

In case of cancellation of a reservation, the following cancellation charges will be applied:
(1) 14 days to 3 days prior: 20% of the program fee
(2) 2 days prior: 50% of the program fee
(3) 1 day prior to the program or no-show: 100% of the program fee
*A separate remittance fee will be charged.

◆ Please follow the instructions of the guide during the program. We will not be responsible for any accidents that may occur due to disobedience of the guide's instructions.

◆ The program will be operated in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the Japan Tourism Agency. As a measure against COVID-19, you will be asked to disinfect your hands and wear a mask, and we will take your temperature before starting the experience.

◆ For the cultural experience programs, you are required to meet our guide at a designated meeting place. Please note: The main entrance to our facility is locked on Saturday afternoons, Sundays, and national holidays. If you attend an experience on one of these days, please wait in front of the lobby and a staff member will come to meet you.
